How to Wear a Peshawari Chappal with Shalwar Kameez, Waistcoat and Jeans

A good pair of Peshawari chappals goes with more than most people think. The same pair can look right at Jummah, at a wedding dinner and on a relaxed Sunday with jeans. The trick is simple: match the chappal to the occasion first, then to the colour of what you are wearing. This guide walks through the three outfits we get asked about most, shalwar kameez, a waistcoat and jeans, and which of our pairs suits each one.
With shalwar kameez
This is where the Peshawari chappal feels most at home. A pressed kameez and clean leather or suede chappals is a look that never dates. The only real question is colour, and a few easy pairings cover almost every wardrobe:
- White or off white kameez: nearly anything works. Black looks sharp and formal, brown looks warm and relaxed, and navy suede gives a quiet, modern touch.
- Black, charcoal or dark grey: black chappals keep it clean and serious. Grey suede is a softer choice that still looks put together.
- Cream, beige, khaki and earthy shades: brown or beige. A chestnut, imli or chocolate brown sits naturally with these colours.
- Sky blue, mint and other light colours: brown or beige suede usually looks better than black, which can feel heavy against pale fabric.
- Navy kameez: brown for contrast, or black if you want it darker and more formal.
If you are still unsure, look at the kameez you wear most often. Dark and white clothes lean black. Light, warm and pastel clothes lean brown. You can see our pairs side by side in black Peshawari chappals and brown Peshawari chappals.
With a waistcoat
For Eid, a nikkah, a mehndi or a family dinner, a waistcoat over your shalwar kameez lifts the whole outfit, and your chappals should rise with it. This is the time for a pair with a bit of polish.
Our high chrome leather pairs suit this well. Old Money Black has a soft sheen, not matte and not high gloss, that looks dressed up without shouting. It goes with a black, navy, grey or charcoal waistcoat. For brown, Heritage Chestnut is made from the same leather and looks lovely with camel, mustard, olive and beige waistcoats.
A simple rule: keep the chappal darker than, or close to, the colour of the waistcoat, and let the kameez be the lightest part of the outfit. For more on the Old Money pairs, read The Old Money Chappal: Black or Brown, and How to Wear It, or browse our finest pairs in Baaz Premium.
With jeans or chinos
Peshawari chappals with jeans is an easy, relaxed look for a casual day, a trip to the market or an evening out with friends. A few things help it look right:
- Go for a lighter sole. A light EVA foam sole looks neater with jeans than a very chunky one. Our lightweight Peshawari chappals sit on stitched EVA foam, and pairs like Coco Dune and Autumn Dune Air weigh only about 300 to 350 grams per chappal.
- Suede feels casual. Suede has a soft, relaxed texture that suits denim. Chocolate brown, beige and navy all look good with blue jeans.
- Mind the hem. Jeans that pile up over the chappal hide the shape. A slim or straight cut, or a small turn up at the ankle, shows the chappal off.
- Keep the top simple. A plain shirt, a polo or a kurta over jeans works better than anything busy.
Which sole for which outfit
The sole changes the feel of a chappal as much as the colour does.
- Light EVA foam sole: the easiest everyday choice and the best match for jeans. Comfortable for long days on your feet.
- Medium tyre and cork sole: the all rounder. Smart enough for a waistcoat, easy enough for daily wear. Old Money, Heritage Chestnut and the navy Harbour Dune sit on this sole. Harbour Dune pairs easily with white, grey or black shalwar kameez.
- Thick, chunky sole: a bold look with more height. It looks best with shalwar kameez, where the fuller outfit balances it. See our chunky sole chappals, such as the grey suede Graphite Grace.

One pair or two?

If you only want one pair, choose black leather on a medium sole. It covers office days, Jummah, weddings and the odd evening in jeans. If you want two, add a brown or suede pair for daytime and casual wear, and you are ready for almost anything.
On a budget, our everyday Baaz Essentials pairs, Raw Black and Raw Cedar, are Rs 4,450 and work well with both shalwar kameez and a casual Friday look.
Small things that make a big difference
- Skip the socks. Peshawari chappals look best worn barefoot.
- Keep them clean. Wipe leather with a soft dry cloth, and brush suede gently.
- Let a new pair settle. Good leather softens and shapes to your foot as you wear it.
